 1                          HOUSE RESOLUTION

 2        WHEREAS,  The  members   of   the   Illinois   House   of
 3    Representatives  are pleased to recognize milestone events in
 4    the lives of the citizens of the State of Illinois; and

 5        WHEREAS, It has come to our attention that Dolores  Wasko
 6    is  retiring  after 38 years of service to Mary Miller Junior
 7    High School in Georgetown, Illinois; and

 8        WHEREAS, Dolores Wasko began teaching  language  arts  at
 9    Mary  Miller  Junior  High  School in 1976 by taking over the
10    position of the school's namesake, Mary Miller;  she  teaches
11    eighth-grade  language  arts,  but  has  taught every subject
12    except mathematics; and

13        WHEREAS, Dolores Wasko received her bachelor's of science
14    degree  from  Illinois  State  University  in  1959  and  her
15    master's of science degree in education with a  specialty  in
16    reading from the University of Illinois in 1979; and

17        WHEREAS,  Dolores  Wasko  began  her  teaching  career in
18    Danville from 1960 through  1961,  in  Georgetown  from  1961
19    through 1964, and in Westville from 1964 through 1965; and

20        WHEREAS,  Dolores Wasko returned to Georgetown in 1965 as
21    the lone librarian for all the schools, where she  began  the
22    card  catalog  systems  for  the  libraries and gave talks on
23    books; she then went on to be the lone art  teacher  for  all
24    the  schools,  where she would push a cart with the day's art
25    lesson around to each classroom in each building; and

26        WHEREAS, As an art teacher, Dolores Wasko has taught such
27    projects as calligraphy, weaving on a loom, and tie-dying  in
28    the  1970s; in the five years that she has solely taught art,
29    she had two students earn art degrees; and

30        WHEREAS, As a language arts teacher,  Dolores  Wasko  has

 1    had  her  students participate in a number of essay contests;
 2    she also developed the "preposition song"  which  helped  her
 3    students memorize prepositions; and

 4        WHEREAS,  Dolores  Wasko has been a cheerleading sponsor,
 5    on the library  board, and helped with the group that  helped
 6    Georgetown become a unit district; and

 7        WHEREAS,   Dolores   Wasko    is  someone  who  students,
 8    teachers, and administrators rely upon for her experience and
 9    wisdom; she has  been  a  source  of  encouragement  for  the
10    school's younger teachers; and

11        WHEREAS, Dolores Wasko plans to spend her retirement with
12    her   husband,   Joe,  and  watching  their  three  grandsons
13    participate in sports; and

14        WHEREAS, Dolores Wasko's  presence  and  vision  will  be
15    dearly  missed  by the faculty, staff, and the students, past
16    and present, at Mary Miller Junior High School; therefore, be
17    it

18        RESOLVED,  BY  THE  HOUSE  OF  REPRESENTATIVES   OF   THE
19    NINETY-SECOND GENERAL ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that
20    we  congratulate  Dolores  Wasko  on  her retirement after 38
21    years of service to the faculty, staff and students  at  Mary
22    Miller Junior High School in Georgetown; and be it further

23        RESOLVED,  That  a  suitable  copy  of this resolution be
24    presented to Dolores Wasko as an expression of our esteem.
