 1                          HOUSE RESOLUTION

 2        WHEREAS,  The  members   of   the   Illinois   House   of
 3    Representatives  are pleased to recognize milestone events in
 4    the lives of the citizens of the State of Illinois; and

 5        WHEREAS, It has come to our attention that  Father  Kevin
 6    Vann  is  leaving his duties as Pastor of Our Lady of Lourdes
 7    Parish to accept his new position as Pastor  of  the  Blessed
 8    Sacrament Parish in Springfield; and

 9        WHEREAS,  Father  Kevin  Vann was born on May 10, 1951 to
10    Bill and Theresa Vann; and

11        WHEREAS, Father Kevin Vann attended St. Agnes  School  in
12    Springfield  from  1956  through 1965, Griffin High School in
13    Springfield from 1965 through 1969, and  Springfield  College
14    in   Illinois   from  1969  through  1971;  he  received  his
15    bachelor's  degree  in  Medical   Technology   from   Milikin
16    University in 1974; and

17        WHEREAS,  Father  Kevin Vann was employed for three years
18    at St. John's Hospital in Springfield,  two  of  those  years
19    being night shift supervisor in the clinical laboratory; and

20        WHEREAS, Father Kevin Vann attended the Diocesan Seminary
21    of  the  Immaculate  Conception  in  Springfield from 1976 to
22    1977, attended Kenrick Seminary in St. Louis,  Missouri  from
23    1977  to  1981  when he received his master's of divinity; he
24    was ordained to the Roman  Catholic  Priesthood  on  May  30,
25    1981;  he  then attended the University of St. Aquinas in the
26    City in Rome, Italy, with residence  at  the  North  American
27    College  from 1981 through 1985, earning a Doctorate in Canon
28    Law in 1985; and

29        WHEREAS, Father Kevin Vann's assignments over  the  years
30    include as Parochial Vicar at the Blessed Sacrament Parish in
31    Springfield from 1985 through 1990; as Judge, Defender of the

 1    Bond,  and Procurator/Advocate for the Diocesan Tribunal from
 2    1985 through 1994; Judge of the Metropolitan Court of Appeals
 3    for the Province of Chicago from 1985 through 1994; Parochial
 4    Administrator at St. Mary, Pittsfield, Holy Redeemer,  Barry,
 5    and  Holy  Family,  Griggsville  from  1989  through 1990; as
 6    Pastor of St. Benedicts in Auburn from 1990 through 1992;  as
 7    Parochial  Administrator  at  St.  Mary in Pawnee in 1991; as
 8    Adjutant Judicial Vicar for  the  Interdiocesan  Tribunal  of
 9    Second  Instance  for  the  Province  of  Chicago in 1994; as
10    Parochial Administrator at St. Isadore,  Bethany  and  Sacred
11    Heart  in Dalton City from 1995 through 1997; and Our Lady of
12    the Holy Spirit in Mt. Zion in 1995; as Pastor of Our Lady of
13    Lourdes in Decatur from 1992 to the 2001; as Dean at  Decatur
14    Deanery  from  1996  to the present; and as Episcopal Contact
15    for Hispanic Ministry from 1999 to the present; and

16        WHEREAS, Father Kevin Vann has  been  involved  with  the
17    following  community  organizations,  including  the  Greater
18    Decatur   Chorale,   as   chaplain   to  the  Decatur  police
19    department, author of the Community  Agenda  for  the  Herald
20    Review,  planned  the  New Year's Eve 2000 celebration at the
21    Civic Center, participated in the  Coming  Together  Project,
22    the YMCA, the New Life Pregnancy Center, Ministerial Alliance
23    of  the  North Decatur Churches, and the Breakfast Sertoma on
24    Fridays; in  addition,  he  was  involved  with  the  growing
25    Hispanic community in Decatur and working with others to help
26    provide  for  their spiritual, emotional, and material needs;
27    and he worked with the State of Illinois to find office space
28    for the  "Illinois  Association  of  Agencies  and  Community
29    Organizations for Migrant Advocacy"; and

30        WHEREAS,  The  parish members of Our Lady of Lourdes have
31    been honored and privileged to  have  Father  Kevin  Vann  as
32    their Pastor since 1992 and will miss his presence immensely;
33    therefore be it

 1        RESOLVED,   BY   THE  HOUSE  OF  REPRESENTATIVES  OF  THE
 2    NINETY-SECOND GENERAL ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that
 3    we congratulate Father Kevin  Vann  for  his  dedication  and
 4    service  to the parish of Our Lady of Lourdes and we wish him
 5    well as he takes over the duties as  Pastor  of  the  Blessed
 6    Sacrament in Springfield; and be it further

 7        RESOLVED,  That  a  suitable  copy  of this resolution be
 8    presented to Father  Kevin  Vann  as  an  expression  of  our
 9    esteem.
