 1                          HOUSE RESOLUTION

 2        WHEREAS, Camille M. Gibson is retiring May 1, 2001,  from
 3    the Peoria City Council after a long and distinguished career
 4    in public, civic, and community service; and

 5        WHEREAS,  Councilman  Gibson  was  appointed to serve the
 6    citizens  of  Peoria  as  Second  District  Councilman   from
 7    December,  1988  until  May, 1989, and as at-large Councilman
 8    from  January,  1990  until  May,  1991,   before   she   was
 9    overwhelmingly  elected to serve two at-large terms from May,
10    1991 until May, 2001; and

11        WHEREAS, Councilman Gibson  earned  widespread  community
12    respect,  affection  and  admiration  for  her  leadership in
13    developing the Neighborhood Commission and effective programs
14    for  redevelopment,  public   safety,   beautification,   and
15    community policing; and

16        WHEREAS,  Camille  M.  Gibson  was  instrumental  in  the
17    nationally-recognized  renewal  of  Peoria  Housing Authority
18    properties,    the    successful    city     labor-management
19    collaboration  on wellness and health insurance programs, and
20    the financial and  professional  management  success  of  the
21    Peoria Civic Center; and

22        WHEREAS,   Camille   M.   Gibson  has  devoted  countless
23    volunteer hours in service on  the  City  Zoning  Commission,
24    Charter  School  Board,  Youth  Services Network, Civic Opera
25    Board, Peoria City Beautiful, and as chairman of  the  Peoria
26    County Republican Central Committee from 1979 to 1985; and

27        WHEREAS,  Camille M. Gibson graduated with her bachelor's
28    degree from Bradley University summa cum laude, and from  the
29    University  of  Illinois  with  her M.A. and Ph.D.; she is an
30    esteemed history instructor at Bradley University; therefore,

 1        RESOLVED,  BY  THE  HOUSE  OF  REPRESENTATIVES   OF   THE
 2    NINETY-SECOND GENERAL ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that
 3    we  congratulate Camille M. Gibson on her retirement from the
 4    Peoria City Council and wish her well in all  of  her  future
 5    endeavors; and be it further

 6        RESOLVED,  That  a  suitable  copy  of this resolution be
 7    presented to Camille  M.  Gibson  as  an  expression  of  our
 8    esteem.
