1 HOUSE RESOLUTION
2 WHEREAS, Senator John W. Maitland, Jr., was born in
3 Normal, Illinois on July 29, 1936, to John and Elsa Maitland;
4 and
5 WHEREAS, Senator Maitland is a graduate of Normal
6 Community High School and Illinois State University, and
7 served in the United States Marine Corps; and
8 WHEREAS, Senator Maitland married his wife Joanne Sieg
9 and together they have three children, Jody Ann, Johnny, and
10 Jay, and six grandchildren; and
11 WHEREAS, Senator Maitland entered the General Assembly in
12 1979 and sat on committees of Agriculture; Appropriations;
13 Conservation and Energy; and Executive; and
14 WHEREAS, Senator Maitland is currently the Assistant
15 Majority Leader and Chairman of the Illinois Growth Task
16 Force; and
17 WHEREAS, Senator Maitland has spent the past 22 years of
18 service dedicated to his constituents and has continued his
19 efforts to make his district a thriving community; and
20 WHEREAS, Senator Maitland's district is flourishing with
21 jobs and new development, which he has continued with hard
22 work to maintain for future generations; and
23 WHEREAS, Senator Maitland is a great supporter of
24 education and is highly appreciated for his support on House
25 Bill 1005, which was a major accomplishment for laboratory
26 schools in his district; and
27 WHEREAS, Senator Maitland is a long-time member of the
28 McLean County Republican Party but must now worry about his
29 position and removal from office following the "changing of
30 the guard"; and

1 WHEREAS, The "new guard" Republicans are engaging in
2 disgraceful conduct by attempting to remove Senator Maitland
3 from office while he is making heroic efforts in his recovery
4 from a major illness; and
5 WHEREAS, The Chairman of McLean County seeks to remove
6 Senator Maitland and install a Senator who holds the
7 right-winged position not consistent with the views of most
8 of Senator Maitland's constituents; and
9 WHEREAS, The Republican "new guard" considers Senator
10 Maitland's moderate and wise views on a variety of issues to
11 be unacceptable; and
12 WHEREAS, The "new guard" Republicans are working to
13 undermine and disgrace the achievements and dedication of
14 Senator Maitland for their own benefits; and
15 WHEREAS, Senator Maitland is a beloved local figure and
16 is rightly recognized as an outstanding statesman; therefore,
17 be it
18 RESOLVED, BY THE HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES OF THE
19 NINETY-SECOND GENERAL ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that
20 we honor Senator John W. Maitland, Jr. and wish him a speedy
21 recovery; and be it further
22 RESOLVED, That we deplore and condemn the efforts of the
23 diabolical Republican "new guard" to displace John W.
24 Maitland, Jr. from his elected position as an Illinois State
25 Senator; and be it further
26 RESOLVED, That a suitable copy of this resolution be
27 presented to Senator John W. Maitland, Jr. as an expression
28 of our esteem.
