 1                          HOUSE RESOLUTION

 2        WHEREAS, President Ronald Wilson Reagan, a man of  humble
 3    background,  worked  throughout  his life serving freedom and
 4    advancing  the  public  good,  having  been  employed  as  an
 5    entertainer, Union leader, corporate spokesman,  Governor  of
 6    California and President of the United States; and

 7        WHEREAS,  Ronald Reagan served with honor and distinction
 8    for two terms as the 40th President of the United  States  of
 9    America;  the  second of which he was victorious in 49 of the
10    50 states in the general election, earning the confidence  of
11    3/5 of the electorate, a record unsurpassed in the history of
12    American presidential elections; and

13        WHEREAS,  in  1981,  when  Ronald  Reagan was inaugurated
14    President, he inherited a disillusioned  nation  shackled  by
15    rampant inflation and high unemployment; and

16        WHEREAS,  During  Mr.  Reagan's presidency he worked in a
17    bipartisan manner to  enact  his  bold  agenda  of  restoring
18    accountability and common sense to Government which led to an
19    unprecedented economic expansion and opportunity for millions
20    of Americans; and

21        WHEREAS,  Mr.  Reagan's  commitment  to  an active social
22    policy agenda for the nation's children  helped  lower  crime
23    and drug use in our neighborhoods; and

24        WHEREAS,  President  Reagan's  commitment  to  our  armed
25    forces  contributed  to  the restoration of pride in America,
26    her values  and  those  cherished  by  the  free  world,  and
27    prepared America's Armed Forces to win the Gulf War; and

28        WHEREAS,  President  Reagan's  vision  of  "peace through
29    strength" led to the end of the Cold  War  and  the  ultimate
30    demise  of  the Soviet Union, guaranteeing basic human rights
31    for millions of people; and

 1        WHEREAS, on February 6,  2001  Ronald  Reagan  will  have
 2    reached  the  age  of  ninety  years,  thus becoming both the
 3    oldest active and oldest former President in the  history  of
 4    our nation; therefore, be it

 5        RESOLVED,   BY   THE  HOUSE  OF  REPRESENTATIVES  OF  THE
 6    NINETY-SECOND GENERAL ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that
 7    we  hereby  recognizes  February  6,  2001,  and   subsequent
 8    anniversaries  thereafter  as  "Ronald Reagan Day"; and be it
 9    further

10        RESOLVED, That a copy  of  this  resolution  be  sent  to
11    President Ronald Wilson Reagan.
