 1        AN ACT concerning firefighting.

 2        Be it enacted by the People of  the  State  of  Illinois,
 3    represented in the General Assembly:

 4        Section  5.  The  State  Fire  Marshal  Act is amended by
 5    adding Section 10 as follows:

 6        (20 ILCS 2905/10 new)
 7        Sec. 10. Hazardous materials equipment grant program. The
 8    Office of the State Fire Marshal shall administer a hazardous
 9    materials equipment grant program. The program shall  provide
10    grants  to  units  of  local  government  for the purchase of
11    equipment for handling hazardous materials. The Office  shall
12    determine  eligibility  for  the  grants  based  on  need, as
13    determined  by  the   Office.    The   grants,   subject   to
14    appropriation,  shall  be  paid out of moneys appropriated to
15    the Office for that purpose.  The Office shall adopt rules to
16    administer the grant program.

17        Section 99.  Effective date.  This Act takes effect  upon
18    becoming law.
