Short description: 
CRIM CD-RETAIL THEFT-MINOR                                                 

Synopsis of Bill as introduced:
        Amends the Criminal Code of 1961.  With respect to detention for       
   retail theft, requires a merchant to "immediately make a reasonable         
   attempt" to inform the police and parents, guardian, or other pri-          
   vate person  interested in the welfare of the minor of the detention        
   of a minor suspected of retail theft.                                       
        SENATE AMENDMENT NO. 1.                                                
        Provides that the merchant may, in his or her discretion,  inform      
   a  peace  officer  of  the  detention  of  a  minor  for the suspected      
   commission of retail theft and  may,  in  the  merchant's  discretion,      
   surrender custody of the minor to the peace officer.                        
          FISCAL NOTE (Illinois State Police)                                  
          There would be no fiscal impact on Ill. State Police.
