House Sponsors: BLACK. Short description: COUNTIES-INDIAN LANDS-LAWSUITS Synopsis of Bill as introduced: Amends the Counties Code. With respect to certain legal proceedings in which the sovereignty of the State and the jurisdiction of a county are at issue because of an alleged defect in federal land patents, authorizes the Governor and the Attorney General to provide legal and financial assistance to the county board of an affected county. Authorizes the county board to participate in the proceedings, to hire private counsel, and to provide financial and other assistance to the named defendant landowners located within the county. Repealed January 1, 2004. Effective immediately.
