Short description: 
INC TAX-H ED-VOL FIREFIGHTER                                               

Synopsis of Bill as introduced:
        Amends the Illinois Income Tax Act and various Acts  relating  to      
   the  governance of the public universities in Illinois. Provides that,      
   for taxable years 2000 through 2004, each taxpayer who was a volunteer      
   or paid-on-call firefighter during the entire taxable year is entitled      
   to a $1,000 tax credit, which may be  carried  forward  for  2  years.      
   Requires the governing board of each public university to offer a full      
   tuition   waiver   for   undergraduate  education,  subject  to  State      
   appropriation to reimburse the university for the loss of tuition,  to      
   (i)  any  person  who  has  served  as a volunteer firefighter for the      
   entire year previous to the commencement of the academic  year  during      
   which the tuition waiver is to be effective or (ii) any member of that      
   person's immediate family.  Provides for the renewal of the waiver for      
   an  eligible  applicant  who  has  continued  to maintain satisfactory      
   academic progress toward graduation until he or  she  has  expended  4      
   years of the waiver benefits.  Effective immediately.
