Senate Sponsors: MADIGAN,L-LIGHTFORD-SULLIVAN Short description: VOC ED-GENDER EQUITY ADV COMM Synopsis of Bill as introduced: Amends the Vocational Education Act. Changes the name of the Sex Equity Advisory Committee to the Gender Equity Advisory Committee, and changes the name of the sex equity coordinator to the gender equity coordinator. Provides that at least 9 members shall be appointed to advise and consult with the State Board of Education and the gender equity coordinator in all aspects relating to ensuring that all students have equal educational opportunities to pursue high wage, high skill occupations leading to economic self-sufficiency (instead of 9 members being appointed to advise and consult with the sex equity coordinator in all aspects relating to the coordinator's job description). Removes the expertise requirements for the 2 State Board of Education employees. Changes the expertise requirements for the 5 citizen appointees. Provides that membership also may include employees from the Department of Commerce and Community Affairs, the Department of Human Services, and the Illinois Community College Board who have expertise in the same areas required for the citizen appointees. Provides that the committee shall elect a Secretary from its members (instead of the State vocational education sex equity coordinator serving as Secretary).
