Short description: 
CRIM CD-FIREARM POSSESSN-FELON                                             

Synopsis of Bill as introduced:
        Amends the Criminal Code of 1961.  Provides that the unlawful use      
   or possession of weapons by felons is a Class 2 felony if  the  weapon      
   possessed is a firearm.  Provides that the offense is a Class 3 felony      
   if the weapon possessed is not a firearm.  (Now the offense is a Class      
   3  felony  if  the  offender  is not confined in a penal institution).      
   Amends the Unified  Code  of  Corrections.   Provides  that  a  person      
   convicted  of  unlawful  use  or  possession  of  weapons by felons or      
   persons in the  custody  of  the  Department  of  Corrections  is  not      
   eligible   for   probation,   periodic  imprisonment,  or  conditional      
   discharge.                                                                  
          CORRECTIONAL NOTE (Dept. of Corrections)                             
          The corrections population impact is 3,419 inmates and the fis-      
          cal impact is $695,059,200.                                          
          FISCAL NOTE (Criminal Justice Information Authority)                 
          HB115 will not have a fiscal impact on the Authority.
