   725 ILCS 5/116-4 new                                                        

        Amends the Code of Criminal Procedure of 1963.  Provides that the      
   death of a defendant that  occurred  while  a  direct  appeal  of  the      
   defendant's  conviction  to  the  Illinois  Appellate  Court, Illinois      
   Supreme Court, or U.S. Supreme Court is pending  does  not  abate  the      
   defendant's  conviction.  Provides  that  the  pending appeal shall be      
   dismissed.
