(DONAHUE)

   20 ILCS 2310/55.58a new                                                     

        Amends the Civil Administrative Code of Illinois. Provides that        
   the Department of Public Health shall undertake a study  to  determine      
   incentives to attract and retain nurse assistants to work in long-term      
   care  facilities.   Directs  the  Department to implement a program of      
   incentives by January 1, 2001.  Effective immediately.                      
        SENATE AMENDMENT NO. 1.                                                
        Provides  that  the  Department  shall  undertake  the  study  in      
   cooperation with the Illinois Health Care Association,  Life  Services      
   Network  of  Illinois,  the  Illinois  Council  on Long Term Care, the      
   County Nursing Home Association, the Illinois Community College Board,      
   the Southern Illinois University at Carbondale Department of Workforce      
   Education, the Illinois State Board of Education, and  the  Department      
   on Aging Ombudsman Program.
