   HOLBROOK-OSMOND.
(CLAYBORNE)

   20 ILCS 2605/55a          from Ch. 127, par. 55a                            

        Amends the Civil Administrative Code of Illinois.   Requires  the      
   Department   of   State   Police   to   conduct   criminal  background      
   investigations of prospective firefighters upon  the  request  of  the      
   chief of a fire department.  Allows the Department to charge a fee for      
   conducting the investigation.                                               
        HOUSE AMENDMENT NO. 1.                                                 
        Further  amends  the  Civil  Administrative  Code  of   Illinois.      
   Requires  the  Department of State Police to conduct background checks      
   for volunteer fire departments (instead of fire departments).               
          FISCAL NOTE (Illinois State Police)                                  
          There would be no fiscal impact upon the Ill. State Police due       
          to the fact the bill provides for a fee to cover actual costs.
