 1                          SENATE RESOLUTION

 2        WHEREAS, The members  of  the  Illinois  Senate  wish  to
 3    express  their  sincere condolences to the family and friends
 4    of  Michael  J.  O'Malley,  father  of   fourteen   children,
 5    including  State  Senator  Patrick  J. O'Malley, who recently
 6    passed away; and

 7        WHEREAS, Michael J. O'Malley was  born  on  December  12,
 8    1925;  he  lived  in  the  Mount  Greenwood  and  Morgan Park
 9    communities on the Southwest Side of Chicago for many  years,
10    eventually moving to Palos Park; and

11        WHEREAS,  Michael  J. O'Malley was a proud Plumbers Local
12    130 union plumber with the City of Chicago, where  he  worked
13    for  twenty  years before retiring; Mr. O'Malley then began a
14    full-time career in real estate, where he worked  as  a  real
15    estate  broker  on  the  Southwest  Side  and  the  Southwest
16    suburbs; and

17        WHEREAS,  Michael  J. O'Malley will be remembered for the
18    high values he placed on family and  education;  he  attended
19    St.  Ignatius  High  School, taking accelerated courses so he
20    could enlist in the Army Air Corps during World  War  II;  he
21    went on to serve in the European Theater during the war; and

22        WHEREAS,  Michael  J.  O'Malley earned his Bachelor's and
23    Master's degrees in history at DePaul University  and  taught
24    history and civics at Leo High School; and

25        WHEREAS, As a young man he raised purebred Irish terriers
26    and  greyhound  dogs  with his father; Henry Cabot Lodge flew
27    into  Midway  Airport  from  Boston  to  select  one  of  Mr.
28    O'Malley's dogs as his own; the family of Alderman  Ed  Burke
29    and Representative Dan Burke also owned one of Mr. O'Malley's
30    dogs; and

31        WHEREAS,  The  passing  of  Michael  J.  O'Malley will be

 1    deeply felt by his family and friends, especially his  loving
 2    wife,  Eileen;  his  children,  Michael  P.  O'Malley,  State
 3    Senator  Patrick  J.  O'Malley, Thomas K. O'Malley, Eileen M.
 4    O'Malley, Mary Margaret Shannon, Terrence A. O'Malley, Daniel
 5    L. O'Malley, Joan M. Gross,  Reverend  Timothy  J.  O'Malley,
 6    Paul  S.  O'Malley, and William S. O'Malley; his mother, Mary
 7    "Mae" O'Malley Cummings; his seventeen grandchildren,  Brigid
 8    Anne,  Patrick  J.,  Jr.,  Michael  Thomas,  Rory  Alexander,
 9    Maureen   Therese,   Margaret  Mary,  Declan  James,  Michael
10    Christopher,  Daniel  Alexander,  Sean  Christopher,  Siobahn
11    Alicia, Joseph Ryan, Brian Thomas, Connor Philip, John James,
12    Claire    Elizabeth,    and    Grace    Eileen;    and    his
13    great-granddaughter, Mary Elizabeth; therefore, be it

14        RESOLVED, BY  THE  SENATE  OF  THE  NINETY-FIRST  GENERAL
15    ASSEMBLY  OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that we mourn, along with
16    all who knew and were touched by this  man,  the  passing  of
17    Michael  J.  O'Malley  of  Palos  Park,  Illinois;  and be it
18    further

19        RESOLVED, That a suitable  copy  of  this  resolution  be
20    presented  to  the  family of Michael J. O'Malley, along with
21    our sincere thoughts at this time.
