 1                          SENATE RESOLUTION

 2        WHEREAS, The members  of  the  Illinois  Senate  wish  to
 3    extend their sincere condolences to the family and friends of
 4    Stanley  George  Smith of Wauconda, who recently passed away;
 5    and

 6        WHEREAS, Stanley George Smith was born on the George Case
 7    Farm, north of Wauconda; his parents were Marshall  E.  Smith
 8    and  Alma  Mae  Case;  his name was suggested by his father's
 9    students, in honor of Henry Stanley,  an  explorer  that  had
10    been in the news at that time; and

11        WHEREAS,  Stanley  George Smith attended Wauconda schools
12    and was salutatorian of  Wauconda  High  School's  graduating
13    class of 1939; he served with the second calvary during World
14    War II; he served as a radio operator from June of 1944 until
15    the  end  of  the  war,  taking  a  part in the Battle of the
16    Ardennes, the release  of  concentration  camp  prisoners  in
17    Germany, and the rescue of the Lippizaner stallions; and

18        WHEREAS,  After  serving  his country, Mr. Smith attended
19    Lake Forest College; he was employed by  Cary  Dairy  as  the
20    retail  milkman  to  homes  for  25  years; he then worked at
21    Sportsman Sporting Goods Store for 10 years; and

22        WHEREAS, Mr. Smith served as an umpire  for  many  years,
23    deciding  games  for  youth,  amateur,  and semi-pro baseball
24    teams; he was a charter member and past commander of American
25    Legion Post 911 in Wauconda; he was a member of Church of the
26    Holy Apostles, where he served on the Bishop's Committee; and

27        WHEREAS,  Stanley  George  Smith  served  as  a  Wauconda
28    Township Trustee for three four-year terms, and  as  Township
29    clerk  for two terms; Stanley George Smith is survived by his
30    wife,  Patricia  Oswald   Smith;   his   son,   Daniel;   his
31    stepbrother,   Gerald   Schaefer;  his  stepsister,  Rosemary

 1    Hassel; and  his  grandchildren,  Pamela  Smith  and  Richard
 2    Smith; therefore, be it

 3        RESOLVED,  BY  THE  SENATE  OF  THE  NINETY-FIRST GENERAL
 4    ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that we mourn, along  with
 5    all  that  knew  him,  the  death  of Stanley George Smith of
 6    Wauconda, Illinois; and be it further

 7        RESOLVED, That a suitable  copy  of  this  resolution  be
 8    presented to the family of Stanley George Smith.
