 1                          SENATE RESOLUTION

 2        WHEREAS, The members of the Illinois Senate are  saddened
 3    to  learn  of  the  death  of  William  J. Flaherty, Sr., who
 4    recently passed away; and

 5        WHEREAS, William J. Flaherty, Sr. was born in  Rochester,
 6    New York on March 14, 1917; he was a 1935 graduate of Marmiom
 7    Academy  and  a 1940 graduate of Niagara University, where he
 8    held a football scholarship for four years; he served in  the
 9    United  States  Navy  during World War II, where he performed
10    duties  as  a  naval  aviator,  flight  instructor,   and   a
11    multi-engine sea plane pilot; and

12        WHEREAS,  William  J.  Flaherty,  Sr.  lived  in Batavia,
13    Illinois from 1947 to 1968, operating a Standard Oil station;
14    he moved to Aurora and began a career  as  a  Life  Insurance
15    agent; and

16        WHEREAS,  William  J.  Flaherty,  Sr. was a member of Our
17    Lady of Good Counsel Church; and

18        WHEREAS, The passing of William J. Flaherty, Sr. will  be
19    deeply  felt by all that knew him, especially his wife, Ruth;
20    his children, Joan Elizabeth (Dr.  Antonio  Riera)  Flaherty,
21    William  J.  Flaherty,  Jr., Mark (Colleen) Flaherty, Patrick
22    (Judy) Flaherty, Judith Anne Flaherty, Ruth  Marie  Flaherty,
23    and  James  D.  (Linda)  Flaherty; his grandchildren, Enrique
24    (Arianna) and Beatriz Arana, Michael, Anne,  Benjamin,  Mark,
25    Katherine,  and  Daniel  Flaherty,  Matthew, Brian, Nicholas,
26    Graham, and Sarah Ludmer, Amy, Andrew, Brittany,  Carly,  and
27    Timothy  Flaherty;  and  his  great-grandchild,  Sophia Marie
28    Arana Cabrera; therefore, be it

29        RESOLVED, BY  THE  SENATE  OF  THE  NINETY-FIRST  GENERAL
30    ASSEMBLY  OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that we mourn, along with
31    all that  knew  and  loved  him,  the  death  of  William  J.

 2        RESOLVED,  That  a  suitable  copy  of this resolution be
 3    presented to the family of William J. Flaherty, Sr..
