 1                          SENATE RESOLUTION

 2        WHEREAS, The members  of  the  Illinois  Senate  wish  to
 3    express  their  sincere condolences to the family and friends
 4    of former State Representative Jane M. Barnes,  who  recently
 5    passed away; and

 6        WHEREAS,  Mrs.  Barnes  was  born  in  Chicago  and was a
 7    graduate of Notre Dame High School in Chicago;  she  attended
 8    Saint Xavier University in Chicago; and

 9        WHEREAS,  Mrs.  Barnes served the people of Illinois as a
10    Republican Representative from the Southwest suburbs from the
11    years 1975 to 1993; she secured funding  for  her  area  from
12    Governor  Thompson's Build Illinois Program, which aided Lake
13    Katherine, the Orland  Park  Civic  Center,  the  Palos  Park
14    original sewer project, and the Palos Park Village Hall; Mrs.
15    Barnes  was  instrumental in convincing the State of Illinois
16    to replace the bridges in south Palos Township; and

17        WHEREAS, For her hard work and dedication  to  her  area,
18    the  annex  to  the  Orland Park Civic Center was named after
19    her; and

20        WHEREAS, Mrs. Barnes also convinced Governor Thompson  to
21    donate  the  land  at  111th  Street  and  Harlem Avenue so a
22    veteran's memorial could be erected there; and

23        WHEREAS, She is remembered as a full-time legislator  who
24    loved working for her constituents; she remembered everyone's
25    name; she always was willing to help other legislators to get
26    their  bills  passed;  and  she  is remembered for laying the
27    foundation for many of the projects in the Palos  Park  area;
28    and

29        WHEREAS,   While   serving   in  the  Illinois  House  of
30    Representatives, Representative Barnes served as part of  the
31    House  Republican  leadership;  she was the top Republican on

 1    the House Appropriations Committee in the mid-1980s; she also
 2    served on the Committees on Aging,  Constitutional  Officers,
 3    Higher    Education,    Housing,    and    State   Government
 4    Administration; she was a member of the  Child  Support  Task
 5    Force    and   was   co-chairman   of   the   Commission   on
 6    Intergovernmental Cooperation; and

 7        WHEREAS,  Mrs.  Barnes  was  preceded  in  death  by  her
 8    daughter, Denise Barnes, and her loving and devoted  husband,
 9    Warren "Barney" Barnes; and

10        WHEREAS,  Mrs. Jane Barnes is survived by her sons, Bruce
11    Barnes, Samuel Barnes, Scott Barnes, and Jeffrey Barnes;  her
12    brother,  Harold  Crowley;  her  seven grandchildren; and her
13    great-grandchild; therefore, be it

14        RESOLVED, BY  THE  SENATE  OF  THE  NINETY-FIRST  GENERAL
15    ASSEMBLY  OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that we mourn, along with
16    all that knew and were touched by  her  life,  the  death  of
17    former State Representative Jane M. Barnes; and be it further

18        RESOLVED,  That  a  suitable  copy  of this resolution be
19    presented to  the  sons  of  former  Representative  Jane  M.
20    Barnes.
