 1                          SENATE RESOLUTION

 2        WHEREAS, The members of the Senate were saddened to learn
 3    of the death of Herman R. Potter of Danville on Monday, March
 4    6, 2000; and

 5        WHEREAS, Herman Potter was born  in  Blount  Township  on
 6    September  26,  1915,  the  son of Jewell and Rosetta Swisher
 7    Potter; he married M. Helen Rambols on June 13, 1936; and

 8        WHEREAS, Mr. Potter  attended  Potter  Grade  School  and
 9    graduated from Henning High School; he farmed with his father
10    in  Blount  Township  after  high  school and then farmed for
11    himself for 50 years, retiring in 1990; and

12        WHEREAS, Mr. Potter served on the Vermilion County  Board
13    for 28 years, was supervisor of Blount Township for 28 years,
14    and  was  a caretaker for Johnson Cemetery in Danville for 26
15    years; and

16        WHEREAS, He was a member  of  the  Old  Union  Church  of
17    Christ, a former member of the Danville Elks Club, and a 32nd
18    degree  member  of  Masonic Lodge 33, Scottish Rite; he drove
19    his 1966 Mustang convertible in political parades; and

20        WHEREAS, The passing of Herman Potter will be felt by his
21    family and friends, especially his wife, Helen; his daughter,
22    Shirley Hawkins Wernigk; his three grandchildren;  his  eight
23    great-grandchildren;  his two foster great-grandchildren; and
24    his six foster great-great-grandchildren; therefore, be it

25        RESOLVED, BY  THE  SENATE  OF  THE  NINETY-FIRST  GENERAL
26    ASSEMBLY  OF  THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that we note with sorrow
27    and regret the death of  Herman  R.  Potter  and  extend  our
28    sincere  condolences  to  his  family  and friends; and be it
29    further

30        RESOLVED, That a suitable  copy  of  this  resolution  be
