 1                          SENATE RESOLUTION

 2        WHEREAS, The members  of  the  Illinois  Senate  wish  to
 3    express  their  sincere  condolences  to the family, friends,
 4    listeners, and the City of Chicago, on the death  of  beloved
 5    radio personality Bob Collins; and

 6        WHEREAS,  Bob  Collins was affectionately known as "Uncle
 7    Bobby" by the listeners who woke up with him  every  morning;
 8    from  the  first  cup of coffee to the daily commute to their
 9    places of employment, tens of thousands of Chicagoans enjoyed
10    starting their day with Bob Collins; and

11        WHEREAS, Bob Collins grew up in Florida and attended  the
12    University  of Florida; in 1974 he moved to Chicago and began
13    his radio career with WGN Radio, finding a home at 720 on the
14    AM dial; and

15        WHEREAS, From 5 a.m. to 9 a.m. Bob Collins would find the
16    ability to make the news, sports, weather,  traffic  updates,
17    market reports, time checks, faxes, telephone calls, live and
18    taped  commercials,  special  guests,  and  e-mail  all  flow
19    together  on  his  show,  making it all come together in what
20    some people referred to as a town meeting every morning; and

21        WHEREAS, Bob Collins and Christine Collins, a  native  of
22    Elmhurst,  Illinois,  were married in June of 1986; Christine
23    was the love of his life; and

24        WHEREAS,    Bob    Collins    enjoyed    planes,    cars,
25    Harley-Davidson motorcycles, and  making  the  daily  commute
26    from his Lake County home; and

27        WHEREAS,   Bob   Collins   received   an   Illinois  News
28    Broadcasters award for his reporting  on  a  1984  CTA  train
29    crash; and

30        WHEREAS,  Bob Collins will long be remembered for being a

 1    valued part of Chicago and its diverse  cast  of  characters;
 2    therefore, be it

 3        RESOLVED,  BY  THE  SENATE  OF  THE  NINETY-FIRST GENERAL
 4    ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that we mourn, along  with
 5    so many that knew and loved him, the death of Bob Collins; we
 6    hope  that  peace  and  comfort  may be found in this time of
 7    loss; and be it further

 8        RESOLVED, That a suitable  copy  of  this  resolution  be
 9    presented to the family of Bob Collins.
