 1                          SENATE RESOLUTION

 2        WHEREAS, The members of the Senate were saddened to learn
 3    of the death of the Reverend Karen L.  Parsons,  Minister  of
 4    the  Pilgrim  Lutheran Church in Ravenswood, on Saturday, May
 5    22, 1999; and

 6        WHEREAS,  She  was  born  in  Kalamazoo,  Michigan,   and
 7    attended  public  schools  in  Michigan  and  graduated  from
 8    Western  Michigan  University;  she  taught music in a public
 9    school in her native state and then spent  a  year  in  Paris
10    studying on a Rotary scholarship; she pursued youth and music
11    ministries in a variety of institutions, working and studying
12    in Michigan, Montana, and Texas; and

13        WHEREAS,  She attended the Lutheran School of Theology in
14    Hyde Park, becoming associate pastor  of  the  Zion  Lutheran
15    Church  after  graduating in 1989; she moved to work with two
16    small  Lutheran  congregations  in  Country  Club  Hills  and
17    Matteson, while there she served on the board  of  the  South
18    Suburban  Gang  Initiative; in 1997, she was installed as the
19    sixth pastor of the Pilgrim Lutheran Church; and

20        WHEREAS, Her passing will be deeply felt  by  her  family
21    and  friends,  especially  her mother, Eva, and her brothers,
22    Jack, Ed, and Ken; therefore, be it

23        RESOLVED, BY  THE  SENATE  OF  THE  NINETY-FIRST  GENERAL
24    ASSEMBLY  OF  THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that we note with sorrow
25    and regret the death of the Reverend  Karen  L.  Parsons  and
26    extend our sincere condolences to her family and friends; and
27    be it further

28        RESOLVED,  That  a  suitable  copy  of this resolution be
29    presented to her mother, Eva Parsons.
