 1        AN ACT to amend the Illinois  Vehicle  Code  by  changing
 2    Section 12-801.

 3        Be  it  enacted  by  the People of the State of Illinois,
 4    represented in the General Assembly:

 5        Section 5.  The  Illinois  Vehicle  Code  is  amended  by
 6    changing Section 12-801 as follows:

 7        (625 ILCS 5/12-801) (from Ch. 95 1/2, par. 12-801)
 8        Sec. 12-801. Color and signs.
 9        (a)  The  exterior  of  each school bus shall be national
10    school bus glossy yellow except as follows:
11        The rooftop may be white.
12        The fenders of school buses manufactured  before  January
13    1, 1976, may be black.
14        Body  trim,  rub  rails,  lettering  other than on a stop
15    signal arm and bumpers on a Type I school bus shall be glossy
16    black.
17        Lettering on a stop signal arm shall be white  on  a  red
18    background.
19        Bumpers  on a Type II school bus may be glossy black or a
20    bright, light or colorless finish.
21        The hood and  upper  cowl  may  be  lusterless  black  or
22    lusterless school bus yellow.
23        Grilles  on  the  front,  lamp  trim and hubcaps may be a
24    bright finish.
25        The name or emblem of a manufacturer may be colorless  or
26    any color.
27        The  exterior  paint  of  any  school bus shall match the
28    central value, hue and chroma set forth in rules  promulgated
29    by the Department.
30        (b)  Local  school  boards  may elect, and any school bus
31    company may agree, to display  signs  bearing  public  safety

 1    messages  on  their  Type I school buses. The signs may be of
 2    any color, may be no larger than 2 feet in height and 6  feet
 3    in  width,  and may be displayed within frames on either side
 4    or both sides of any Type I school bus. Local  school  boards
 5    electing  to display these signs on their Type I school buses
 6    shall adopt rules regarding the content of the signs.

 8        Section 99.  Effective date.  This Act takes effect  upon
 9    becoming law.
