 1                          HOUSE RESOLUTION

 2        WHEREAS, The 91st General Assembly has approved  HB  1284
 3    which  provides  for a public-private partnership between the
 4    State of Illinois and the Chicago Bears to renovate  historic
 5    Soldier Field; and

 6        WHEREAS,  The  Chicago Bears will have to play their home
 7    games in a location other than Soldier Field during the  2002
 8    National Football League season due to the renovation; and

 9        WHEREAS,   The  Chicago  Bears  are  not  just  Chicago's
10    football team, but an NFL team  that  is  supported  by  fans
11    throughout the State of Illinois; and

12        WHEREAS,  University  of  Illinois' Memorial Stadium is a
13    historic landmark and provides a  seating  capacity  of  more
14    than 70,000; and

15        WHEREAS, The Champaign-Urbana area would gain substantial
16    economic  benefits  from  having the Chicago Bears play their
17    2002 season at Memorial Stadium; and

18        WHEREAS, The Chicago Bears would expand their fan base in
19    the  State  of  Illinois  by  playing  in  Memorial  Stadium;
20    therefore, be it

21        RESOLVED,  BY  THE  HOUSE  OF  REPRESENTATIVES   OF   THE
22    NINETY-FIRST  GENERAL ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that
23    we urge the Chicago Bears to play their 2002 season games  at
24    Memorial Stadium in Champaign-Urbana; and be it further

25        RESOLVED,  That  a  suitable  copy  of this resolution be
26    presented  to  the  front  office  of   the   Chicago   Bears
27    Organization.
