1 HOUSE RESOLUTION
2 WHEREAS, The members of the Illinois House of
3 Representatives wish to express their sincere condolences to
4 the family and friends of Wayne McCoy, who recently passed
5 away; and
6 WHEREAS, Wayne McCoy was born in Louisville, Kentucky; he
7 received his Bachelor's degree in business administration
8 from the University of Indiana in 1965, where he met his
9 wife, Sharron; he received his law degree from the University
10 of Michigan in 1972, and immediately signed with Schiff,
11 Hardin & Waite in Chicago; and
12 WHEREAS, In his first five years with Schiff, Hardin &
13 Waite, Mr. McCoy became a partner in the firm; during his
14 career he represented the Chicago Housing Authority, the
15 Chicago Transit Authority, and Cook County; he was
16 instrumental in securing financing for the new Comiskey Park;
17 he served as general counsel for the defunct Chicago School
18 Finance Authority, a watchdog agency started by the Illinois
19 General Assembly; and
20 WHEREAS, Wayne McCoy was one of the first
21 African-American lawyers to become a partner at a major law
22 firm in the City of Chicago; his most recognized client was
23 Michael Jordan, the former star of the Chicago Bulls
24 basketball organization; and
25 WHEREAS, The passing of Wayne McCoy will be felt by all
26 who knew him, especially his wife of thirty-six years,
27 Sharron; his daughter, Kamilah; his sisters, Marsha
28 Cumberlander and Millicent Jackson; and his friends and
29 colleagues at Schiff, Hardin & Waite; therefore, be it
30 RESOLVED, BY THE HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES OF THE
31 NINETY-FIRST GENERAL ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that

1 we mourn the passing of Wayne McCoy of Chicago, Illinois, and
2 extend our sympathy to his family and friends at this time;
3 and be it further
4 RESOLVED, That a suitable copy of this resolution be
5 presented to the family of Wayne McCoy.
