1 HOUSE RESOLUTION
2 WHEREAS, This Body is pleased to recognize Illinois
3 citizens who have distinguished themselves in service to
4 their community; and
5 WHEREAS, It has come to our attention that Omar K.
6 Squibb, Sr. will receive an award from the State Fire Marshal
7 at a dinner in his honor on Tuesday, May 9, 2000; and
8 WHEREAS, Mr. Squibb has been President of the Board of
9 Trustees for the Salem Fire Protection District from 1955
10 (when it was created) until 2000; and
11 WHEREAS, Mr. Squibb was born in Salem on December 12,
12 1918; he married Iris E. Needham on March 31, 1942; and
13 WHEREAS, The Squibbs have been blessed with two children,
14 Omar K. Squibb, Jr. and Sara Lynn Squibb-Gergeni, six
15 grandchildren, and three great-grandchildren; and
16 WHEREAS, A lifelong resident of Marion County and a World
17 War II United States Army veteran, Omar Squibb planned,
18 promoted, and coordinated the development of the Salem Fire
19 Protection District in 1955; and
20 WHEREAS, He farmed his grandfather's farm, which was
21 recognized as Illinois' Centennial Farm in 1963; and
22 WHEREAS, Omar K. Squibb, Sr. has earned the respect and
23 admiration of all who have come to know him; therefore, be it
24 RESOLVED, BY THE HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES OF THE
25 NINETY-FIRST GENERAL ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that
26 we congratulate Omar K. Squibb, Sr. on receiving an award
27 from the State Fire Marshal and applaud his service of
28 forty-five years to the Salem Fire Protection District; and
29 be it further
