 1                          HOUSE RESOLUTION

 2        WHEREAS,  Donald  A.  Johnson  is  a  native  of  Quincy,
 3    Illinois and began his career as a union electrician for  the
 4    International  Brotherhood of Electrical Workers (IBEW) Local
 5    67, which later merged with IBEW Local 34; and

 6        WHEREAS, Donald A. Johnson became a leader in  his  local
 7    union,  serving on its Executive Board, and winning elections
 8    to the offices of President and, later, Business  Manager  of
 9    IBEW Local 67; and

10        WHEREAS,  Donald  A. Johnson served the working people of
11    Illinois safeguarding the wages and benefits that  they  were
12    granted  by  State  law,  as  the  Director  of  the Illinois
13    Department of Labor; and

14        WHEREAS, Donald A. Johnson was the Executive Secretary of
15    the West Central  Illinois  Building  &  Construction  Trades
16    Council,  representing  union construction workers in western
17    Illinois from 1978 to 1987; and

18        WHEREAS,  Donald  A.  Johnson  was  the  Legislative  and
19    Political (COPE) Director of the Illinois AFL-CIO, serving as
20    the lobbyist for the state's largest labor organization  from
21    1987 to 1989; and

22        WHEREAS,     Donald     A.    Johnson    was    appointed
23    Secretary-Treasurer of the Illinois AFL-CIO in 1989  and  was
24    elected to that post in 1991; and

25        WHEREAS, Donald A. Johnson was appointed President of the
26    Illinois  AFL-CIO,  which  represents  over one million union
27    members and acts as a voice for all Illinois workers, in June
28    of 1993 and was elected President of the Illinois AFL-CIO  in
29    1995; and

30        WHEREAS,  Donald  A.  Johnson  retired  from the Illinois

 1    AFL-CIO on March 31, 2000; and

 2        WHEREAS, Donald  A.  Johnson  has  dedicated  his  entire
 3    career  to  organized  labor and the working men and women in
 4    the State of Illinois; therefore, be it

 5        RESOLVED,  BY  THE  HOUSE  OF  REPRESENTATIVES   OF   THE
 6    NINETY-FIRST  GENERAL ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that
 7    we  congratulate  and  commend  Donald  A.  Johnson  for  his
 8    lifetime of service to and achievement for  the  working  men
 9    and  women  of the State of Illinois and wish he and his wife
10    Nancy well in their retirement; and be it further

11        RESOLVED, That a suitable  copy  of  this  resolution  be
12    presented to Donald A. Johnson.
