1 HOUSE RESOLUTION
2 WHEREAS, The members of the Illinois House of
3 Representatives are pleased to honor milestones in the lives
4 of Illinois citizens; and
5 WHEREAS, James R. Donnelley, Vice Chairman of the Board
6 of R.R. Donnelley & Sons Company in Chicago, Illinois, will
7 retire on May 31, 2000; and
8 WHEREAS, James R. Donnelley was born in Chicago,
9 Illinois, on June 18, 1935; he received his Bachelor of Arts
10 degree from Dartmouth College in 1957 and his Master's in
11 Business Administration from the University of Chicago in
12 1962; and
13 WHEREAS, James R. Donnelley served in the United States
14 Navy from 1957 to 1960, where he was a Lieutenant qualified
15 in submarines; and
16 WHEREAS, James R. Donnelley began his career with the
17 R.R. Donnelley & Sons Company in 1962, serving in various
18 positions in sales and management; in 1972 he became the
19 Director of the Financial and Legal Sales Division, and in
20 1974 he became the Vice President of that same division; in
21 1983 he became the Group Vice President of Financial
22 Services, and moved into the role of President of Financial
23 Services in 1985; in 1988 he became the Group President of
24 Corporate Development, and in 1990 was made the Vice Chairman
25 of the Board of R.R. Donnelley & Sons; and
26 WHEREAS, In addition to his work with R.R. Donnelley &
27 Sons, Mr. Donnelley serves as Director of Sierra Pacific
28 Resources and Pacific Magazines and Printing Limited; he is
29 the Director of Children's Memorial Hospital, the Director
30 and Vice President of the Donnelley Foundation, the Director
31 of the John C. Griswold Foundation, the Director and Vice

1 Chairman of the Chicago Public Library Foundation, the
2 Director and Chairman of the National Merit Scholarship
3 Corporation, and the Director of the City Colleges of Chicago
4 Foundation; and
5 WHEREAS, James R. Donnelley is a trustee for WTTW Public
6 Television, a trustee and member of the Executive Committee
7 of the Associate Colleges of Illinois, a trustee of Lake
8 Forest College, a trustee of the National Recreation
9 Foundation, a member of the University of Chicago Library
10 Visiting Committee, a member of the Commercial Club of
11 Chicago, a member of the Economic Club of Chicago and the
12 Economic Club of New York, a board member and vice chairman
13 of the National Environmental, Educational and Training
14 Foundation, and serves on the Chicago Youth Centers Advisory
15 Board; and
16 WHEREAS, Along with his loving wife, Nina, Mr. Donnelley
17 can look forward to his retirement, and the free time he will
18 now have to enjoy; therefore, be it
19 RESOLVED, BY THE HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES OF THE
20 NINETY-FIRST GENERAL ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that
21 we congratulate James R. Donnelley on his retirement from
22 R.R. Donnelley & Sons Company; and be it further
23 RESOLVED, That a suitable copy of this resolution be
24 presented to James R. Donnelley, along with our sincere
25 regards.
