 1                          HOUSE RESOLUTION

 2        WHEREAS, The  House  of  Representatives  is  pleased  to
 3    recognize citizens who have made outstanding contributions to
 4    the State of Illinois; and

 5        WHEREAS,  It  has  come  to  our attention that Robert W.
 6    Fioretti, after five  years  as  President,  has  retired  as
 7    President of the Historic Pullman Foundation; and

 8        WHEREAS,  The  Historic Pullman Foundation was formed for
 9    the purpose of acquiring and restoring buildings and sites of
10    architectural or historic importance in the original town  of
11    Pullman  and  to operate them as landmark museums and centers
12    of culture and education regarding the  important  historical
13    and architectural aspects of the town of Pullman; and

14        WHEREAS,   During  his  years  as  President,  Robert  W.
15    Fioretti has developed and enhanced the many educational  and
16    tourism   programs   of   the  Foundation;  he  has  expanded
17    fundraising campaigns and established  long  term  goals  and
18    helped  membership in over 37 states in the United States and
19    five foreign countries with a sister society in England; and

20        WHEREAS,  During  his  years  as  President,  Robert   W.
21    Fioretti  has developed educational and tourism programs that
22    have focused national and international attention on the town
23    of Pullman and the legacy of George M. Pullman, including his
24    Pullman   Car   Company   and   its    role    in    American
25    industrialization  and  the rail industry; the innovations in
26    architecture, town planning, civil engineering, and landscape
27    architecture as a model planned industrial  town;  increasing
28    programs  regarding  organized  labor including the Strike of
29    1894, and the focus on A. Philip Randolph and the Brotherhood
30    of Sleeping Car Porters; the social and cultural  history  of
31    the  factory  craftsmen  and  laborers; and the impact of the
32    rail industry and its role in opening up the American west on

 1    settlement and development; and

 2        WHEREAS, Robert W. Fioretti  developed  the  Clock  Tower
 3    campaign  that  has  led  to the formation of a task force to
 4    formulate a plan for the restoration and reuse of the Pullman
 5    Clock Tower and Factory complex which has  received  national
 6    attention  by  the  designation  of First Lady Hillary Rodham
 7    Clinton as an official project of the White House  Millennium
 8    Council's "Save America's Treasures" initiative; and

 9        WHEREAS,  Robert W. Fioretti has retired as the volunteer
10    president of the Foundation and has left  a  legacy  for  the
11    Foundation that includes a sound fiscal management, increased
12    national  and  international attention on this historic site,
13    and developed programs to enrich the lives of many; and

14        WHEREAS, Robert W. Fioretti has made  many  contributions
15    to his community and the State of Illinois and has earned the
16    respect and admiration of all; therefore, be it

17        RESOLVED,   BY   THE  HOUSE  OF  REPRESENTATIVES  OF  THE
18    NINETY-FIRST GENERAL ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS,  that
19    we  congratulate  Robert  W.  Fioretti  on  his retirement as
20    President of the Historic Pullman Foundation and applaud  his
21    five years of dedicated service; and be it further

22        RESOLVED,  That  a  suitable  copy  of this resolution be
23    presented to Robert W. Fioretti.
