 1                          HOUSE RESOLUTION

 2        WHEREAS,  The  members   of   the   Illinois   House   of
 3    Representatives  are pleased to honor milestones in the lives
 4    of Illinois' finest; and

 5        WHEREAS, Richard J. Ternes, a longtime part of  the  hard
 6    working  Chicago  Fire  Department, retired on June 20, 1999;
 7    and

 8        WHEREAS, Richard Ternes was born on March  19,  1939;  he
 9    married  Sandy J. Ternes on September 23, 1961; they have two
10    daughters, Dawn and Linda, and are the proud grandparents  of
11    Michael and Richard; and

12        WHEREAS, Richard Ternes began working on the Chicago Fire
13    Department  in  September  of 1961; after his training at the
14    academy, he first worked on Truck 12, then  was  assigned  to
15    Squad  9,  which  was  his  favorite  assignment, then he was
16    assigned to Salvage 7, followed by Truck 1, and later  Engine
17    129, and on to Truck 50; and

18        WHEREAS,  Richard  Ternes continued his dedication to the
19    Chicago Fire Department by moving on to 5th District  Relief,
20    where  he  became a Lieutenant after the 1980 strike; he then
21    moved to Truck 8, and finally to Truck 52, where  he  retired
22    in June of 1999; and

23        WHEREAS,   Richard  Ternes  picked  up  the  nickname  of
24    "Junior" during his career with the Chicago Fire  Department;
25    and

26        WHEREAS, Richard Ternes was a staunch and loyal member of
27    Local  2,  where  he  was  a  union steward and the grievance
28    committee chairman; therefore, be it

29        RESOLVED,  BY  THE  HOUSE  OF  REPRESENTATIVES   OF   THE
30    NINETY-FIRST  GENERAL ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that

 1    we congratulate Richard J. Ternes on  a  job  well  done;  we
 2    offer  our  fond  wishes  for his future endeavors; and be it
 3    further

 4        RESOLVED, That a suitable  copy  of  this  resolution  be
 5    presented  to  Richard  J.  Ternes,  along  with  our sincere
 6    regards.
