 1                          HOUSE RESOLUTION

 2        WHEREAS, The  Illinois  Chapters  of  Alpha  Kappa  Alpha
 3    Sorority are sponsoring their second annual legislative visit
 4    to the State Capitol; and

 5        WHEREAS, Alpha Kappa Alpha Sorority, Inc., was founded in
 6    1908  as  the  first sorority established by African American
 7    college women; and

 8        WHEREAS,  Alpha   Kappa   Alpha   is   an   international
 9    organization  with  over  200,000  undergraduate  and alumnae
10    members; and

11        WHEREAS, Alpha Kappa Alpha itself is an organization with
12    a  commitment  to  promoting  education,  healthy  minds  and
13    bodies,  family  unity,   economic   development,   political
14    empowerment, cultural heritage, and the arts; and

15        WHEREAS, Alpha Kappa Alpha members who have distinguished
16    themselves  individually  include:  Rosa Parks, Coretta Scott
17    King,  Hazel  O'Leary,  Maya  Angelou,  Toni  Morrison,  Ella
18    Fitzgerald, Phylicia Rashad, Zina  Garrison,  and  Illinoisan
19    Linda  White,  international  president-elect  of Alpha Kappa
20    Alpha, Inc.; therefore, be it

21        RESOLVED,  BY  THE  HOUSE  OF  REPRESENTATIVES   OF   THE
22    NINETY-FIRST  GENERAL ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that
23    the members of this Body, in recognition of the  achievements
24    of  the  members of Alpha Kappa Alpha Sorority, Inc., and the
25    values for which they strive, do  proclaim  Wednesday,  March
26    29,  2000,  as the Second Annual AKA Day throughout the State
27    of Illinois; and be it further

28        RESOLVED, That a suitable  copy  of  this  resolution  be
29    presented  to  Linda  White, international president-elect of
30    Alpha Kappa Alpha, Inc.
