 1                          HOUSE RESOLUTION

 2        WHEREAS,  Libraries  are  an  important   part   of   the
 3    community,  and  serve  a wide variety of purposes, including
 4    aiding the wandering seeker of information, helping the  lost
 5    reader  in  finding a prized tome, and making a place for the
 6    young student fulfilling the final requirements for a thesis;
 7    and

 8        WHEREAS, One such library is the Decatur  Public  Library
 9    in Decatur, Illinois; and

10        WHEREAS,  On  August  3,  1875,  the Decatur City Council
11    approved a tax supported  public  library  for  the  City  of
12    Decatur;  on  August  10, 1875 the library was established by
13    ordinance; and

14        WHEREAS, Through the two bookmobiles and the modern  main
15    facility  the  Decatur  Public  Library continues to meet the
16    needs of the community; and

17        WHEREAS, The 125th anniversary celebration of the Decatur
18    Public Library will begin in March of  2000;  there  will  be
19    special  programs  and  events  to  highlight  this  historic
20    occasion; therefore, be it

21        RESOLVED,   BY   THE  HOUSE  OF  REPRESENTATIVES  OF  THE
22    NINETY-FIRST GENERAL ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS,  that
23    we  acknowledge  the  125th anniversary of the Decatur Public
24    Library; may it continue to be a  fount  of  information  and
25    entertainment for those who seek to better themselves through
26    knowledge; and be it further

27        RESOLVED,  That  a  suitable  copy  of this resolution be
28    presented  to  the  Head  Librarian  of  the  Decatur  Public
29    Library.
