1 HOUSE RESOLUTION
2 WHEREAS, The members of the Illinois House of
3 Representatives are pleased to honor milestones in the State
4 of Illinois; and
5 WHEREAS, St. Paul Missionary Baptist Church in Chicago,
6 Illinois, is celebrating fifteen years of service under the
7 inspiring leadership of Dr. Joel D. Taylor; Dr. Taylor is a
8 native of Chicago and has the distinction of pastoring the
9 same church his late father, the Reverend J.J. Taylor,
10 presided over; and
11 WHEREAS, Pastor Taylor received his Bachelor of Arts
12 degree in Religious Studies from DePaul University in
13 Chicago; he received his Master of Divinity degree from
14 Northern Baptist Theological Seminary in Lombard, Illinois,
15 with a specialization in Pastoral Ministry; he received his
16 Doctor of Ministry degree from United Theological Seminary in
17 Dayton, Ohio in May of 1998; his dissertation was based on
18 "Biblical Preaching that Establishes the Norm for Social
19 Activism"; and
20 WHEREAS, Pastor Taylor serves as the Moderator of the
21 Christian Fellowship Baptist District Association; he is the
22 Executive Vice President of the Illinois National Baptist
23 State Convention; he is Treasurer of the Moderator's Council
24 and he is a member of the Evangelical Board of the National
25 Baptist Convention of America, Incorporated; and
26 WHEREAS, Pastor Taylor has implemented several social
27 ministries with St. Paul Missionary Baptist Church, including
28 Operation Care & Clothes Closets, Operation SWAT Team, Jobs,
29 Sisterhood, Technology, Education, Ruth & Naomi, Genesis,
30 Jackie Robinson, St. Paul Herald, Scholarship Ministry, and
31 Wednesday Evening Classes; and

1 WHEREAS, Reverend Taylor is married to the former Cynthia
2 Vernice White, the daughter of Pastor and Sister J. P. White;
3 Pastor White serves the Greater Mt. Pleasant Missionary
4 Baptist Church; Reverend and Mrs. Taylor were married on
5 August 23, 1986 and have two children, Jasper Paul and
6 Jessica Dominique; and
7 WHEREAS, Dr. Taylor is known around the country as a
8 dynamic young gospel preacher, who has exemplified the
9 highest moral and civic leadership; St. Paul Missionary
10 Baptist Church is blessed to have such a fine young man of
11 God serving the Chicago area; therefore, be it
12 RESOLVED, BY THE HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES OF THE
13 NINETY-FIRST GENERAL ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that
14 we congratulate Dr. Joel Taylor on the occasion of his
15 fifteenth anniversary serving the congregation of St. Paul
16 Missionary Baptist Church; and be it further
17 RESOLVED, That a suitable copy of this resolution be
18 presented to Reverend Doctor Joel D. Taylor.
