1 HOUSE RESOLUTION
2 WHEREAS, Roy Curry has quite an impressive history and
3 athletic background; during his college career, Roy Curry was
4 one of the most revered quarterbacks to play at Jackson State
5 University, leading the school to its first Southwest
6 Athletic Conference Championships in 1961 and 1962 and
7 gaining the title of Black National Champions of the
8 Prestigious Orange Blossom Classic; it was during this
9 classic that Roy Curry was unanimously named most valuable
10 player; and
11 WHEREAS, In 1963, Roy Curry was drafted into the National
12 Football League by the Pittsburgh Steelers and played two
13 years as a wide receiver before sustaining an injury that
14 ended his professional football career; and
15 WHEREAS, Roy Curry became a physical education specialist
16 and assistant football coach at Parker High School (now Paul
17 Robeson High School); after being promoted to head football
18 coach, Coach Curry coached the team to city championships in
19 1970 and 1981 and was runner up in 1982 Illinois Class 5-A
20 State High School Football League Championship; and
21 WHEREAS, Coach Curry is an avid member of the Chicago
22 Public League Coaches Association, the Champ Sports Medicine
23 Doctors Association, the Sun-Times All-Area Coaches Board,
24 the Illinois Coaches Hall of Fame, the Jackson State
25 University Hall of Fame, and the SWAC Football Hall of Fame;
26 and
27 WHEREAS, Coach Curry is resigning from the position of
28 head football coach of the Robeson High School, a position
29 that he has held for thirty-three years; he will now share
30 his expertise with all of Chicago by heading the Football
31 Program for the entire public league; therefore, be it

1 RESOLVED, BY THE HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES OF THE
2 NINETY-FIRST GENERAL ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that
3 we honor and applaud Coach Roy Curry for his many years of
4 successful coaching at Robeson High School and thank him for
5 dedicating his professional career to the education of young
6 people; and be it further
7 RESOLVED, That we wish him much success in his new
8 career; and be it further
9 RESOLVED, That a suitable copy of this resolution be
10 presented to Coach Roy Curry.
