 1                          HOUSE RESOLUTION

 2        WHEREAS,  The  members   of   the   Illinois   House   of
 3    Representatives  are  pleased  to  honor  milestones  in  the
 4    history of institutions in the State of Illinois; and

 5        WHEREAS,  Eureka College, around which the city of Eureka
 6    has grown, is located in central Illinois; it  is  a  liberal
 7    arts   and  science  institution  that  exists  to  cultivate
 8    excellence in learning, service, and leadership; and

 9        WHEREAS, Eureka College fosters the mutual development of
10    intellect and character  so  that  it's  graduates  may  lead
11    meaningful,   productive   lives   and   succeed   in   their
12    professional and social roles; and

13        WHEREAS,  Eureka  College  was  chartered by the Illinois
14    General Assembly in 1855; it was the  first  college  in  the
15    State  and  the third in the nation to admit men and women on
16    an  equal  basis;  Eureka  College  is  affiliated  with  the
17    Christian Church (Disciples  of  Christ),  and  emphasizes  a
18    Christian oriented liberal education; and

19        WHEREAS,  Eureka  College  has  had a major impact on the
20    country, with alumni  who  have  had  successful  careers  in
21    education,  business,  management,  the  arts,  and community
22    service; Ronald Reagan  the  40th  President  of  the  United
23    States  of  America,  is perhaps Eureka College's most famous
24    graduate; therefore, be it

25        RESOLVED,  BY  THE  HOUSE  OF  REPRESENTATIVES   OF   THE
26    NINETY-FIRST  GENERAL ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that
27    we recognize and congratulate Eureka College on 145 years  of
28    providing excellence in higher education; and be it further

29        RESOLVED,  That  a  suitable  copy  of this resolution be
30    presented to the President of Eureka College and the Board of
31    Trustees.
