1 HOUSE RESOLUTION
2 WHEREAS, The members of the Illinois House of
3 Representatives are pleased to honor milestones in the lives
4 of citizens of the State of Illinois; and
5 WHEREAS, Gail Simer of Centralia, Illinois has been named
6 the recipient of the Illinois Woman of Achievement Award by
7 the Lieutenant Governor's Office in conjunction with March
8 being "Women's History Month"; and
9 WHEREAS, Gail Simer was nominated for this award by
10 Centralia Mayor Robert "Bob" Demijan; and
11 WHEREAS, Gail Simer is the City Manager for Centralia;
12 she began working for Centralia in 1981 as the Housing
13 Rehabilitation Assistant/Relocation Assistance Officer; in
14 1983 she was asked to take the position of Administration
15 Assistant to the City Manager; and
16 WHEREAS, In 1992 Gail Simer was appointed by the Mayor to
17 the position of City Clerk; she received Registered Illinois
18 Municipal Clerk status in 1995 and Certified Illinois
19 Municipal Clerk status the same year; in August of 1999 she
20 was appointed by the Mayor and City Council of Centralia to
21 become the first female City Manager; and
22 WHEREAS, Gail Simer and her husband, Richard, have six
23 children; Gail Simer is involved in school projects, band,
24 different activities, and other duties of a mother; she is
25 involved with the Calumet Street Christian Church, performing
26 duties from singing in the choir to arranging the vacation
27 bible school program; therefore, be it
28 RESOLVED, BY THE HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES OF THE
29 NINETY-FIRST GENERAL ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that
30 we congratulate Gail Simer on receiving the Illinois Woman of
31 Achievement Award; and be it further

2 presented to Gail Simer.
