1 HOUSE RESOLUTION
2 WHEREAS, The 1958-59 basketball team at L-P-O Junior
3 College was the most successful team in L-P-O's history as
4 the Apaches finished with an overall 19-6 record, and capped
5 the season with a trip to the National Junior College
6 Tournament in Hutchinson, Kansas; and
7 WHEREAS, Coach John Strell, co-captains Bob Walsh and Jim
8 Mini, along with Irv Batten, George Pohl, John Ossola, Dave
9 Simkins, Joe DiCaroli, and John Wyzgowski received honors
10 during a special ceremony at Illinois Valley Community
11 College, formerly known as L-P-O, on January 22, 2000; and
12 WHEREAS, WLPO's Lanny Slevin introduced each man before a
13 packed gymnasium of proud families, friends, and fans prior
14 to the I.V.C.C. men's basketball game against the College of
15 DuPage; and
16 WHEREAS, Head Coach Mike Riley and I.V.C.C. President Dr.
17 Jean Goodnow are recognized and commended for their extra
18 effort and special interest in making this celebration so
19 great and memorable; therefore, be it
20 RESOLVED, BY THE HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES OF THE
21 NINETY-FIRST GENERAL ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that
22 we congratulate Coach Strell and the entire 1958-1959 men's
23 basketball team at L-P-O Junior College for their
24 sportsmanship and success; and be it further
25 RESOLVED, That a suitable copy of this resolution be
26 presented to Bob Walsh, Jim Mini, Irv Batten, George Pohl,
27 John Ossola, Dave Simkins, Joe DiCaroli, John Wyzgowski, and
28 Coach John Strell, as well as Coach Mike Riley and Dr. Jean
29 Goodnow.
