1 HOUSE RESOLUTION
2 WHEREAS, The members of the Illinois House of
3 Representatives wish to extend their sincere condolences to
4 the family and friends of George Karavidas, who recently
5 passed away; and
6 WHEREAS, George Karavidas, after working for his father
7 when he was growing up, bought a tavern from his dad after
8 his honorable discharge from the United States Army in 1948;
9 he worked to turn it into Marie's Pizza, and it became a
10 North Mayfair neighborhood institution; and
11 WHEREAS, George Karavidas was the president of the
12 Mayfair Lions Club, a member of the Albany Park Chamber of
13 Commerce, and was appointed to the board of the Lawrence
14 Avenue Development Corporation; and
15 WHEREAS, Mr. Karavidas would often walk through his
16 140-seat family restaurant, greeting customers and sharing
17 his sense of humor; he was known for his generosity, donating
18 to area churches and community groups when those groups
19 needed his help; and
20 WHEREAS, George Karavidas and his wife, Lillian,
21 established a college scholarship for high school students of
22 the neighborhood; and
23 WHEREAS, George Karavidas is survived by his wife,
24 Lillian; his children, Theodore and Nadine; his three
25 grandchildren; his brothers, Charles, William, and Gus; and
26 his sister, Helen Angelpoulos; therefore, be it
27 RESOLVED, BY THE HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES OF THE
28 NINETY-FIRST GENERAL ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that
29 we mourn along with all those that knew and loved George
30 Karavidas; may they find peace in this time of loss; and be
31 it further

1 RESOLVED, That a suitable copy of this resolution be
2 presented to the family of George Karavidas.
