 1                          HOUSE RESOLUTION

 2        WHEREAS, It is with great pleasure that  the  members  of
 3    this  Body  welcome  the opportunity to recognize citizens of
 4    this  State  who  have  made  outstanding  contributions   to
 5    society; and

 6        WHEREAS,  It  has  come  to  our  attention  that Richard
 7    Chierico  has  announced  his  retirement  as   Director   of
 8    Community Education and Services in High School District #214
 9    in Arlington Heights as of June, 2000; and

10        WHEREAS,  Prior  to  serving  as  Director, he was a high
11    school instructor in the  suburban  communities  of  Wheaton,
12    Palatine, Lombard, and Elk Grove Village; and

13        WHEREAS,  He has transformed what was once the continuing
14    education  department   into   a   full-scale,   far-reaching
15    community  program  that  not only serves the varied needs of
16    its residents but provides  lifelong  learning  opportunities
17    for them; and

18        WHEREAS,  Among the many awards Mr. Chierico has received
19    and shared with others as a result of partnerships  are:  the
20    Exemplary  Business-Education Comprehensive Partnership Award
21    with the Arlington  Heights  Chamber  of  Commerce  from  the
22    Illinois  State Council on Business-Education Partnerships in
23    1992, the U. S. Department of Education Secretary's Award for
24    Outstanding Adult Education and Literacy  Programs  in  1992,
25    FIGHTING    BACK:   Communities   Against   Substance   Abuse
26    recognition from the Illinois State  Board  of  Education  in
27    1992, the $25,000 ENCORE (Encourage Community Response to the
28    Elderly)  Award  from  the  Retirement Research Foundation in
29    partnership with the Resource Center for the Elderly in 1993,
30    and the Lt. Governor's Outstanding  Volunteer  Program  Award
31    for "Read to Learn for a Brighter Future" in 1994; and

 1        WHEREAS,  Throughout  his  career,  Richard  Chierico has
 2    focused on bringing school and community together to  promote
 3    quality  lifelong learning for people of all ages; therefore,
 4    be it

 5        RESOLVED,  BY  THE  HOUSE  OF  REPRESENTATIVES   OF   THE
 6    NINETY-FIRST  GENERAL ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that
 7    we congratulate and thank Richard Chierico for the dedication
 8    and service he has given to the education of the citizens  of
 9    Illinois, particularly as Director of Community Education and
10    Services  in  High School District #214 in Arlington Heights,
11    and wish to extend our best to him for the future; and be  it
12    further

13        RESOLVED,  That  a  suitable  copy  of this resolution be
14    presented to Richard Chierico.
