1 HOUSE RESOLUTION
2 WHEREAS, Throughout history, brave Americans have shed
3 their blood during wars and conflicts to preserve, protect,
4 and defend the foundation of the principles of democracy and
5 freedom; and
6 WHEREAS, Quality medical services are increasingly needed
7 by, and of vital importance to, an aging veteran population;
8 and
9 WHEREAS, The North Chicago Veterans' Affairs Medical
10 Center has provided quality medical services to Chicago area
11 veterans for many years; and
12 WHEREAS, The North Chicago Veterans' Affairs Medical
13 Center is also of vital interest to the residents of North
14 Chicago and Lake County; and
15 WHEREAS, The city of North Chicago is in need of jobs and
16 economic development, and cutting services at the North
17 Chicago Veterans' Affairs Medical Center would result in a
18 loss of jobs and revenue in the community; and
19 WHEREAS, The city of North Chicago has a large number of
20 minority residents, many of whom would be affected by
21 cutbacks at the North Chicago Veterans' Affairs Medical
22 Center; and
23 WHEREAS, Cutting services at the North Chicago Veterans'
24 Affairs Medical Center would be detrimental to the veterans
25 and residents of Lake County; therefore be it
26 RESOLVED, BY THE HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES OF THE
27 NINETY-FIRST GENERAL ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that
28 we urge the Illinois congressional delegation and the United
29 States Veterans Administration to support keeping the North
30 Chicago Veterans' Affairs Medical Center open without

1 cutbacks; and be it further
2 RESOLVED, That a copy of this resolution be transmitted
3 to each member of the Illinois congressional delegation and
4 the chief officer of the United States Veterans
5 Administration.
