 1                          HOUSE RESOLUTION

 2        WHEREAS,  The  members   of   the   Illinois   House   of
 3    Representatives  are  pleased  to recognize milestones in the
 4    lives of Illinois citizens; and

 5        WHEREAS, It  has  come  to  our  attention  that  Officer
 6    William J. Hightower of the Chicago Police Department will be
 7    retiring on November 15, 1999; and

 8        WHEREAS,  William  J. Hightower attended Hales Franciscan
 9    High School and Wendell Phillips High School in Chicago,  and
10    completed  courses  at Loop City College in Chicago; in March
11    of  1970  he  began  his  career  with  the  Chicago   Police
12    Department; and

13        WHEREAS,  Officer  Hightower  has  worked in a variety of
14    positions while serving with the Chicago  Police  Department,
15    including:  Community Service Officer, Hot Desk Clerk, Public
16    Information  Assistant,  Assistant   Police   District   Desk
17    Officer,  Patrol  Officer, Plainclothes/Uniform Detail in the
18    Gang  Crimes  Unit,  Tactical  Officer,  Abandoned   Vehicles
19    Officer, and his most recent work as a Neighborhood Relations
20    Officer  in the Public Housing Section; his work has recently
21    involved being the police liaison in the Cabrini Green Public
22    Housing area; and

23        WHEREAS,   Officer   Hightower    has    received    many
24    commendations   while   serving   with   the  Chicago  Police
25    Department,  including:  the  Department   Commendation   for
26    Exemplary  Police  Work  from the Superintendent of Police in
27    1978, a Certificate of Appreciation from the Girl  Scouts  of
28    Chicago  in  1981,  a  Certificate  of  Appreciation from the
29    Chicago Westside Police Association in 1989, a Certificate of
30    Appreciation from the Superintendent  of  Police  during  the
31    1996   Democratic   Convention,   and   various   Letters  of
32    Appreciation and Honorable Mentions since his beginnings with

 1    the Police Department; and

 2        WHEREAS, Officer Hightower  is  blessed  with  six  sons,
 3    William,   Mario,   Anthony,   Angelo,   Jeffrey,  and  Sean;
 4    therefore, be it

 5        RESOLVED,  BY  THE  HOUSE  OF  REPRESENTATIVES   OF   THE
 6    NINETY-FIRST  GENERAL ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that
 7    we  congratulate  Officer  William  J.   Hightower   on   his
 8    retirement  from  the  Chicago  Police Department; we wish to
 9    thank him on behalf  of  all  the  people  of  the  State  of
10    Illinois  for his willingness to serve and protect; and be it
11    further

12        RESOLVED, That a suitable  copy  of  this  resolution  be
13    presented  to  Officer  William  J. Hightower, along with our
14    sincere regards.
