1 HOUSE RESOLUTION
2 WHEREAS, The members of the Illinois House of
3 Representatives are pleased to recognize milestones in the
4 lives of citizens of the State of Illinois; and
5 WHEREAS, Senator Walter Dudycz will be honored by the
6 Norwood Park Chamber of Commerce as their "Man of the Year"
7 on September 30, 1999; and
8 WHEREAS, Senator Walter Dudycz was born in Chicago,
9 Illinois on March 11, 1950; he graduated from Holy Trinity
10 High School and the Chicago Police Academy; he received his
11 Bachelor of Arts degree from Northeastern Illinois
12 University; he served in the United States Army from 1968 to
13 1971, including a 12-month tour of duty in Vietnam; and
14 WHEREAS, Senator Walter Dudycz has served as a Chicago
15 Police Officer since 1971, and has held the rank of detective
16 since 1978; he served as the Director of the Cook County
17 Sheriff's Work Alternative Program from 1987 to 1990; and
18 WHEREAS, Senator Walter Dudycz has been honored for his
19 work by such organizations as: the Taxpayer's Federation of
20 Illinois, the American Legion, the Veterans of Foreign Wars,
21 the Illinois Association of Homes for the Aging, the Chicago
22 Police Department, and the American Red Cross for his efforts
23 in incidents involving heart attack victims, just to name a
24 few of his many accolades; and
25 WHEREAS, Senator Walter Dudycz has represented the 7th
26 Senate District since 1985; in 1993 he was named the
27 Assistant Senate Majority Leader; he served as a member of
28 the Senate Executive Committee, Rules Committee, Local
29 Government Committee, and the Transportation Committee; and
30 WHEREAS, Senator Walter Dudycz is the founder and past
31 president of the Ukrainian-American Police Association; he is

1 a member of the Fraternal Order of Police Lodge #7; he is a
2 member of the Polish American Police Association; he is a
3 member of the Knights of Columbus; he is a member of the
4 Vietnam Veterans of America #209; he is a member of the
5 American Legion Post #740; and he is a member of the VFW Post
6 #3579; and
7 WHEREAS, Senator Walter Dudycz was the Republican Party
8 nominee for United States Congress in 1990; he was invited to
9 the White House to witness the signing of a series of
10 treaties between the United States and Ukraine in May of
11 1992; he was an observer of the 1990 and 1994 Parliamentary
12 election in Ukraine; and in August of 1994 he co-chaired the
13 International Conference on Law Enforcement in the Ukraine;
14 and
15 WHEREAS, Senator Walter Dudycz and his wife, Oksana, have
16 two daughters, Valya and Nadya; therefore, be it
17 RESOLVED, BY THE HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES OF THE
18 NINETY-FIRST GENERAL ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that
19 we congratulate Senator Walter Dudycz on being named Man of
20 the Year by the Norwood Park Chamber of Commerce; and be it
21 further
22 RESOLVED, That a suitable copy of this resolution be
23 presented to Senator Walter Dudycz, along with our sincere
24 regards.
