1 HOUSE RESOLUTION
2 WHEREAS, The members of the Illinois House of
3 Representatives wish to acknowledge the 100th birthday of
4 Adlai E. Stevenson; and
5 WHEREAS, Adlai Stevenson was Governor of Illinois from
6 1949 to 1953; he was nominated for the office of President of
7 the United States twice, losing to General Dwight D.
8 Eisenhower; at the time of his death he was serving as the
9 United States ambassador to the United Nations; and
10 WHEREAS, The 100th anniversary of the birth of Adlai
11 Stevenson is February 5, 2000; and
12 WHEREAS, Adlai E. Stevenson High School, located in
13 Lincolnshire, Illinois, is named for the former Governor;
14 therefore, be it
15 RESOLVED, BY THE HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES OF THE
16 NINETY-FIRST GENERAL ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that
17 we declare February 5, 2000 to be named Adlai E. Stevenson
18 Day in the State of Illinois; and be it further
19 RESOLVED, That a suitable copy of this resolution be
20 presented to a representative of Adlai E. Stevenson High
21 School in Lincolnshire.
