1 HOUSE RESOLUTION
2 WHEREAS, The members of this Body are pleased to
3 recognize Illinois citizens who have distinguished themselves
4 in service to their community and State; and
5 WHEREAS, It has come to our attention that Police Chief
6 Robert Dietzen has announced his retirement, effective July
7 9, 1999, after twenty-one years of service to the City of
8 Danville; and
9 WHEREAS, He began his career as police chief in 1978;
10 before that he served as Danville's Commissioner of Public
11 Property and as Vermillion County Sheriff; and
12 WHEREAS, Many changes have come to the Danville Police
13 Department under Chief Dietzen, including cellular phones,
14 mounted video cameras, and computers in the cars; during his
15 tenure, the city started overtime patrols in neighborhoods
16 where residents were concerned about crime, the department
17 started the Community Oriented Policing Services program, and
18 officers started cultural diversity training; and
19 WHEREAS, We are honored to recognize this man who has
20 dedicated his life to the well-being of the citizens of his
21 community and this State; therefore, be it
22 RESOLVED, BY THE HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES OF THE
23 NINETY-FIRST GENERAL ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that
24 we congratulate Chief Robert Dietzen as he retires from the
25 Danville Police Department; that we commend him for his
26 dedication to public service; and that we extend our best
27 wishes to him for happiness in all of his retirement
28 pursuits; and be it further
29 RESOLVED, That a suitable copy of this resolution be
30 presented to him as an expression of our respect and esteem.
