 1                          HOUSE RESOLUTION

 2        WHEREAS, The City of Chicago is under siege in  this  hot
 3    summer of 1999; and

 4        WHEREAS,  Cows,  some in rhinestone, one illuminated from
 5    within, others painted in festive colors, but  all  built  of
 6    fiberglass,  have  taken  over this midwestern hub, and it is
 7    uniting Chicagoans together to ask the question, "Why?"; and

 8        WHEREAS, Chicago businessman Peter Hanig returned from  a
 9    trip  to  Zurich, Switzerland with news about Zurich's bovine
10    display and the one million visitors that were drawn to  that
11    city to see the cows; and

12        WHEREAS,  The  decision  was made to do the same thing in
13    Chicago; local artists were asked to put their talent to work
14    on individual cows, and  on  June  15,  1999  the  cows  were
15    dedicated  by  Mayor  Daley,  along with Swiss Consul General
16    Eduard Jaun;  lawyers  dressed  in  cattle  black  and  white
17    entertained the crowd as The Acapellants; and

18        WHEREAS,  Through the exhibit of cattle stampeding across
19    the City of Chicago, people are coming together,  noting  how
20    local  artists  have  put their own unique touch on each cow,
21    giving the bovines a sense of individuality; therefore, be it

22        RESOLVED,  BY  THE  HOUSE  OF  REPRESENTATIVES   OF   THE
23    NINETY-FIRST  GENERAL ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that
24    we hereby make the fiberglass cows of  Chicago  the  official
25    symbols  of  the  year 2000 in the City of Chicago; and be it
26    further

27        RESOLVED, That a suitable  copy  of  this  resolution  be
28    presented to Mayor Richard Daley.
