 1                          HOUSE RESOLUTION

 2        WHEREAS,  The  members   of   the   Illinois   House   of
 3    Representatives   are   proud  to  honor  milestones  in  the
 4    communities of Illinois; and

 5        WHEREAS, The Village of Glenview will be celebrating  its
 6    centennial  in  1999; a major part of the Village of Glenview
 7    is the official town symbol, the Jackman Bear Fountain; and

 8        WHEREAS, On September 15,  1917,  Mr.  Edwin  S.  Jackman
 9    presented  the  Bear  Fountain to the Village of Glenview; it
10    included a watering trough for horses, a small basin for dogs
11    and other small animals, and a spigot with drinking water for
12    children and adults; and

13        WHEREAS, The fountain was first placed on the south  side
14    of  Glenview  Road,  and currently stands on the Village Hall
15    grounds; from that dedication day  came  the  celebration  of
16    Community  Days,  which  became  known  as Glenview Days, and
17    remained an annual event until 1957; and

18        WHEREAS, The fountain has become a symbol for  the  town,
19    and  is  a part of the larger history of Glenview; therefore,
20    be it

21        RESOLVED,  BY  THE  HOUSE  OF  REPRESENTATIVES   OF   THE
22    NINETY-FIRST  GENERAL ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that
23    we honor Glenview and  the  Jackman  Bear  Fountain;  may  it
24    continue  to  stand  as a symbol for the Village of Glenview;
25    and be it further

26        RESOLVED, That a suitable  copy  of  this  resolution  be
27    presented to the Village of Glenview.
