1 HOUSE RESOLUTION
2 WHEREAS, The members of this House are pleased and
3 honored to recognize significant achievements in the lives of
4 individuals of this great State; and
5 WHEREAS, Gene Gourley has announced his resignation as
6 coach of the Danville High School's basketball team after 30
7 years of coaching, 22 years at Danville; and
8 WHEREAS, His first job as head coach was at Nashville
9 during the 1969-70 season, he guided the Hornets to a 22-6
10 record and the school's first regional championship in more
11 than 20 years; in the next year, he steered the Hornets to a
12 24-4 record and the Sweet 16; and
13 WHEREAS, He had four winning seasons in six at Paris,
14 including units that upset Danville teams in the early 1970s;
15 and
16 WHEREAS, He took over coaching at Danville High School
17 before the 1977-78 season and has a 22 year record of
18 377-222; he has 7 Sweet 16 appearances, 11 regional
19 championships, was third in the State in the 1992-93 season,
20 and he became only the 56th Illinois high school coach to win
21 500 games; and
22 WHEREAS, Gene Gourley will remain at Danville High School
23 as athletic director and teacher for another year; he is one
24 of the best coaches Danville High School has ever had;
25 therefore, be it
26 RESOLVED, BY THE HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES OF THE
27 NINETY-FIRST GENERAL ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that
28 we congratulate Gene Gourley as he retires as Coach of
29 Danville High School and applaud his 30 years of coaching;
