 1                          HOUSE RESOLUTION

 2        WHEREAS,  The  members   of   the   Illinois   House   of
 3    Representatives  wish to congratulate Edward Gardner, founder
 4    of the Black on Black Love Campaign, for his efforts to  stop
 5    violence; and

 6        WHEREAS,  After the shooting of a female employee of Soft
 7    Sheen Products, Inc., company co-chairman and founder  Edward
 8    Gardner  founded Black on Black Love; he reasoned that it was
 9    necessary to replace Black on Black Crime with Black on Black
10    Love; and

11        WHEREAS, As a result of Mr. Gardner's efforts,  Black  on
12    Black  Love  received  sponsorship from the American Health &
13    Beauty Aids Institute (AHBAI), and began starting chapters in
14    other cities; and

15        WHEREAS, Edward Gardner will be honored at the 1st Annual
16    Golden Pyramid Awards and  Scholarship  Presentation,  to  be
17    held  April  10,  1999,  at the New Regal Theatre in Chicago,
18    Illinois; he will be honored as a man who has  done  so  much
19    for so many; and

20        WHEREAS,  Other  programs  have  come out of the Black on
21    Black Love Campaign, including: My Sister's  Keeper,  helping
22    female  ex-offenders  after their incarceration; Chicago's No
23    Crime Day; monthly programs in the Cook County Jail; and  the
24    Cultural  Arts  Center in public housing; all of the programs
25    are designed to teach love, respect, and  self-discipline  to
26    the Black community; and

27        WHEREAS,  Mr.  Gardner is married to Bettiann Gardner; he
28    and his wife are proud to be  supporters  of  The  New  Regal
29    Theater  Foundation,  which promotes African-American theater
30    in Chicago; he has received many awards and  honors  for  his
31    dedication  to  his business and his community; therefore, be

 2        RESOLVED,  BY  THE  HOUSE  OF  REPRESENTATIVES   OF   THE
 3    NINETY-FIRST  GENERAL ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that
 4    we congratulate and commend Mr. Edward Gardner for  his  hard
 5    work  and  dedication;  through  his  work  with  Soft  Sheen
 6    Products,  Inc.  he  went  on to form the Black on Black Love
 7    Campaign; because of the Campaign, lives  have  been  changed
 8    for  the  better  in cities across the United States; through
 9    this man's love for others, good has come out of  his  effort
10    to formulate change; and be it further

11        RESOLVED,  That  a  suitable  copy  of this resolution be
12    presented to Mr.  Edward  Gardner,  along  with  our  sincere
13    regards.
