1 HOUSE RESOLUTION
2 WHEREAS, The International Latino Cultural Center will be
3 the first of its kind in the nation; and
4 WHEREAS, The Center will include multi-purpose theaters,
5 banquet and exhibition space, a permanent art collection, a
6 Pan-Latino restaurant, a retail shop that carries products
7 from over 20 countries, offices, and an information bureau
8 that connects Chicago with Ministries of Culture and Tourism
9 and art institutions throughout Ibero-America; and
10 WHEREAS, The Center will showcase and promote the arts
11 and culture of over 600 million Latinos worldwide; and
12 WHEREAS, A downtown International Latino Cultural Center
13 will provide a prominent showcase and increase accessibility
14 for the diverse and mulinational Latino arts and culture
15 through film, theater, music, literature, visual arts, and
16 more; and
17 WHEREAS, The Center will be a vital contributor to the
18 State's diversity, cultural resources, tourism, and economy;
19 and
20 WHEREAS, The Center will serve a multi-faceted and
21 growing market which includes 7.8 million residents, 1.8
22 million of which are Latino downtown workers, students, and
23 tourists; and
24 WHEREAS, Latinos are the fastest growing population in
25 the State and nation and are increasingly interested in and
26 financially able to support the arts, particularly when they
27 relate to their own culture; and
28 WHEREAS, The Chicago Latino Cinema has developed
29 expertise in organizational development, fundraising,
30 marketing, promotion, and arts programming and has a sound

1 financial record; and
2 WHEREAS, There is a need and demand for this first of its
3 kind in the nation International Latino Cultural Center;
4 therefore, be it
5 RESOLVED, BY THE HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES OF THE
6 NINETY-FIRST GENERAL ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that
7 we urge and support the creation of the International Latino
8 Cultural Center in Chicago, and are committed to developing
9 cultural relations between the Center's member nations and
10 the State of Illinois, and will facilitate the realization of
11 this important cultural institution; and be it further
12 RESOLVED, That suitable copies of this resolution be
13 delivered to the Speaker of the Illinois House of
14 Representatives, the President of the Illinois Senate, and
15 the Governor of the State of Illinois.
