 1                          HOUSE RESOLUTION

 2        WHEREAS, It is our privilege to honor an  individual  who
 3    has a distinguished record of public service; and

 4        WHEREAS,  Miguel  Santiago  has  served  two  terms as an
 5    Alderman in the City of Chicago; and

 6        WHEREAS,  He  was  elected  to  the  Illinois  House   of
 7    Representatives  and  served  from  1988  to 1997; he was the
 8    first Latino elected to a leadership post in  the  House;  he
 9    served with distinction and honor; and

10        WHEREAS,  He  was born in Puerto Rico on May 24, 1953; he
11    earned  his  bachelor's  degree  from  Northeastern  Illinois
12    University and  his  master's  degree  from  Governors  State
13    University; and

14        WHEREAS,  He has been supported throughout his public and
15    private life by his wife, Leida, and three children; and

16        WHEREAS, Despite some difficult  times,  Miguel  Santiago
17    has  continued  to serve the public with honor; therefore, be
18    it

19        RESOLVED,  BY  THE  HOUSE  OF  REPRESENTATIVES   OF   THE
20    NINETY-FIRST  GENERAL ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that
21    we applaud Miguel Santiago on his  public  service;  that  we
22    admire  his  ability  to  overcome all adversity; and that we
23    wish him well in the future; and be it further

24        RESOLVED, That a suitable  copy  of  this  resolution  be
25    presented to him as an expression of our esteem.
