 1                          HOUSE RESOLUTION

 2        WHEREAS,  The  members   of   the   Illinois   House   of
 3    Representatives  wish  to honor David A. Strand, President of
 4    Illinois State University; and

 5        WHEREAS, David  Strand  received  his  Bachelor  of  Arts
 6    degree  from Carroll College in Wisconsin, and his Masters of
 7    Science  degree  and  Doctorate  in  Education  from  Indiana
 8    University; and

 9        WHEREAS, David Strand began his professional career as an
10    Assistant to the Dean of Students at Southeast Missouri State
11    University in 1959; he then served as Dean of  Students  from
12    1961  to  1965, Associate Dean of the University from 1967 to
13    1970, Dean of the University from 1970 to 1976,  and  finally
14    as  Vice President for Institutional Development from 1976 to
15    1978; and

16        WHEREAS, David Strand began his new career with  Illinois
17    State  University  in  1978, serving as Executive Officer; in
18    1980 he became the Vice President for Business  and  Finance;
19    in  1983 he became the Vice President and Provost; in 1994 he
20    resumed his position  as  Vice  President  for  Business  and
21    Finance,  and  in  1995  he  became the President of Illinois
22    State University; and

23        WHEREAS, In addition to his role as University President,
24    Mr. Strand has  performed  several  other  roles,  including:
25    President of the North Central Association of Academic Deans;
26    Director of the Center for Higher Education at Illinois State
27    University;  Chairperson of the Association of Chief Academic
28    Officers of Illinois Public Universities;  Co-Chairperson  of
29    the  Illinois  State  University-Illinois Wesleyan University
30    Cooperative Planning Committee; and Executive Director of the
31    Academic  Leadership  Institute,  Academic  Affairs  Resource
32    Center,  American   Association   of   State   Colleges   and

 1    Universities; and

 2        WHEREAS,  Mr. Strand has traveled to many different areas
 3    around the world, including: Japan, Kenya, France,  Tanzania,
 4    West  Germany,  Egypt,  Greece, Austria, Belgium, and others;
 5    and

 6        WHEREAS, Mr. Strand has been  honored  by  Who's  Who  in
 7    America;  he  received  Distinguished Service Awards from the
 8    Academic Affairs Resource Center of the American  Association
 9    of State Colleges and Universities, the Illinois Committee on
10    Black  Concerns  in  Higher Education, and the Administrative
11    Professional  Council  from  Illinois  State  University;  he
12    received the  Junior  Award  from  Carroll  College;  and  an
13    Honorary   Doctorate   Degree   in   Higher   Education  from
14    Srinakharinwirot University in Bangkok, Thailand; and

15        WHEREAS, David Strand holds memberships in  the  Academic
16    Affairs  Resource Center of the American Association of State
17    Colleges and Universities,  Alpha  Phi  Omega,  the  American
18    Association  for  Higher  Education, Lambda Psi, the National
19    Council of Chief Academic Officers of the American Council on
20    Education, the North Central Association of  Academic  Deans,
21    Phi Delta Kappa, and Phi Beta Delta; and

22        WHEREAS,  David  Strand  is  actively  involved  with the
23    American  Cancer  Society,  his  local  public  library,  the
24    Presbyterian Church, the Boy Scouts of  America,  the  United
25    Way,  Brokaw  Hospital, BroMenn Healthcare, his local Chamber
26    of Commerce, the Community Concert Association,  and  Service
27    Clubs; and

28        WHEREAS,  David Strand is a very busy and active man, who
29    as President of Illinois  State  University,  is  setting  an
30    example  of  how  hard  work  and  dedication  to  a field of
31    expertise can better an individual; therefore, be it

 1        RESOLVED,  BY  THE  HOUSE  OF  REPRESENTATIVES   OF   THE
 2    NINETY-FIRST  GENERAL ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that
 3    we honor President David Strand for a job well done; we offer
 4    him continual good health  and  well  wishes  in  his  future
 5    endeavors; and be it further

 6        RESOLVED,  That  a  suitable  copy  of this resolution be
 7    presented to David Strand, along with our sincere thanks.
